Tell me more about counselling?
I operate a psychotherapy service from two locations, both from my home in Westcliff on Sea, and a welcoming therapy room, in a grade II listed building in Southend on Sea. Therapy sessions are weekly as we start out, and I work with many tools and strategies to assist you. Under the Jungian framework, I believe that you are already whole, and that you are just on a journey to recognise this. I work with dreams, inner child, and Transactional Analysis, as well as working cognitively with CBT where needed, to assist you with where you are at. The best way to find out if I am the right therapist for you, is to book an initial consultation and visit with me, under no pressure to commit.
How does the life coaching work?
I offer personal coaching, which is one to one. I also offer a specific coaching package for ME/CFS Fibromyalgia and POTS. You can find out more by visiting the coaching page or emailing me direct. I am also going to be running the first empowerment coaching course in due course, which spans a six month period. The structure is ninety minute sessions in a group of eight people, fortnightly and includes a coaching booklet outlining all of the ideas we will be looking at together. In addition you will receive homework activities, guided visualisation CD and podcast. This course can easily be taken also on a one to one basis, and long distance via Skype.
I utilize my psychotherapy training, along with some coaching strategies to offer you a tangible, directive, yet explorative, journey though your psyche. My passion and inspiration for this came about after continuing to negotiate my own healing journey, and feeling disatisfied about years worth of therapy that didn't prove to be very fruitful. In many cases just plain talking therapy doesn't always promote long term transformation and in some cases, it can even become unhealthy. That being said, there is a place for it at certain times. However traditional life coaching can sometimes prove to be superficial, glossing over the deeper, more unconscious stuff. These insights, and my own experiences with psychotherapy, CBT, hypnosis and coaching etc, propelled me to want to combine the psychology practices and theories I was most excited about, to offer a more accelerated and inspiring road to psychological work. This is how I coach!
As I said, I have been both the client and the therapist, and so I wanted to offer something which I felt provided people with something conrete, which combines some clear models for understanding yourself and tools to identify and release unhelpful patterns. I always offer a reduced price, initial one to one consultation for any coaching. Equally after the course you have been fully introduced to the themes and models, and can continue to work with them for greater freedom and self-love in your life. If you want to return for ad hoc sessions in person, we will continue to explore your progression with the strategies, and I will likely introduce other activities and explorations such as dreams, further guided visualisations and whatever is needed for you at the time. For more information about this you can visit the coaching page.
If I feel you may be better suited to some other course of psychology / therapy, then I may point you in a different direction to an avenue I think could be more useful. This is not something you need to be concerned about, this is likely because you are seeking something that I am not offering in my services. Also psychologists / therapists work in differing ways and I can usually tell if my route won't be that beneficial at this time.
What official psychotherapy training / education do I have?
I am a fully trained psychotherapist and counsellor. I received my Masters degree qualification in Psychotherapy and Healing Practices, from The Society of Psychology and Healing. This was fully accredited by Middlesex University in London, after successful completion of a three year course.
My education included an integrative psychology training in psychodynamic theories and models by Freud and Jung, also with particular reference to Klein, Winnicott, Bowlby and many more theorists. The analytic tools I learned included, general counselling approaches, dream analysis, active imagination, working with image / creative visualisations, inner child work and more. My final thesis was entitled: "Certain considerations and treatments of psychosis from 1900 - 1972, with particular reference to art therapy."
My two year counselling placement experience included working in school, as a child play therapist, for A Place 2 Be. Additionally I spent time working as a counsellor at Mind, in Basildon. I have also taken a Post Grad Certificated course in Jungian Analysis and a short course in Transactional Analysis.
I am also trained in Numerology, having researched and used this ancient tool myself, for ten years, I took some official long distance training with Steve.G.Jones.
Further holistic tools, come in the form of energy and sound healing. I am a fully qualified member of the Healing Trust, (formerly the National Federation for Spiritual Healers), which was awarded after a two year training period and a physical demonstration exam. Equally I have trained with Martin Brofman as a Chakra Technician. I recieved an entry into sound therapy by training with Tom Kenyon and Psycho-acoustic Brain Research in Seattle, Washington.
I regularly take part in CPD courses to further my understanding of psychology and keep up to date with new skills which may be beneficial to use within coaching and therapies. Equally I have a passion for reading psychological, spiritual and philosophical literature.
I currently hold memberships with The Healing Trust and am a full member of the British Association for Counseling and Psychotherapy, (BACP). For best practice, I continue with my own therapy / psychological journey, and have regular supervision with an accredited practitioner.
What experiences aid me in being a life coach /psychotherapist?
I feel it's important to reference why I feel I am equipped to be a decent psychology coach and psychotherapist. My feeling of competency doesn't so much derive from external achievements, although I have managed to rack up a little of this through my education, various jobs, the design and maintenance of a self-employed business and general life opportunities to hop around the globe. Instead it arrives from my ability to negotiate, move through, and heal, some quite intense psychological and emotional material, which I arrived at after what could be called a midlife crisis or breakdown, at the height of what looked like possible external success.
Luckily my psychological training and intense passion for spiritual material had paved the way for this period, although I must say it didn't make it any easier to have book knowledge and even client experience. I was given an opportunity to address some trauma which I experienced in childhood and this has continued to lead to a great transformational period, which equally explored a hefty entry into maturation. These phases, used to be known as a rite of passage and I can see why! After a period of intense anxiety and depression, I once again began to feel I was in the world once more, only to then be met with a physical crash. I became completely bed bound and too ill to move much at all. I was eventually diagnosed with ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia, after a year and a half of intense suffering. This followed a slow recovery, with an initial stage of being wheelchair bound with daily living help.
Once I began to put everything together which I had learned over the years, such as a daily meditation practice, CBT for extremely unhelpful thought patterns, EFT for emotional overload, action planning / routine for purpose, physical rehabilitation and diet, along with psychotherapy for more awareness of my long held patterns and dynamics with people, I began to see results and slowly regained a renewed and more balanced life. Little did I know that I would be on a personal healing journey for ten years. It was worth it, as I've now arrived at a beautiful place inside.
I meet just as much challenge as the next person, but I try to use these experiences I have had, as a way to meet the varying complexities I encounter in someone else. I don't judge people coming to me, for whatever purpose you may be seeking coaching or therapy, because I have been beyond my own breaking point and am still standing. We don't all need to make such an intense journey, but any type of pain or un-love that remains at your core will infiltrate your life in seen, or unseen ways, until you can let it go and tend to yourself lovingly, and with the greatest of respect for your individual path.
How is the Numerology session conducted?
The beauty of the numerology review, is that, once I have produced your analysis, it can be emailed across to you as PDF files for you to save on your computer. If you are choosing the option with the added consultation, for a more in-depth understanding, it can be taken long distance over Skype or telephone. There are some options for visiting me in person for the review if you have visited for a session in the past, please email me to enquire about this. During the session I fill you in on your numbers and we learn how this relates to your life and personality. I offer you coaching tips and advice for making the best of your number mix-up. There is time for questions at the end, but it's a casual and interactive space throughout. Once I recieve your details the wait tme for your review is approx a week.
How's this different to other personality profiling?
A numerology analysis gives you something concrete to work with. It has a founding in science but is also incredibly spiritual in nature. Carl Jung was fascinated with the numerological foundations of life, and because all of my services comes under a Jungian framework, the art of number work is just as moving, and liberating. We are seeking wholeness and often, to know our personal equations is life affirming.
Every numerologist works slightly differently, so even if you know your life path number, the information I use may be different. I also use my psychology training to better help interpret your behaviour and patterns. In your chart, I analyse fifteen different numbers. These topics include your Life, expression, soul urge, birthday, personality, maturity, growth, challenge, sub-elements, cornerstone, first vowel, karmic debts, karmic strengths, karmic lessons, your overall effectiveness and personal temperament.
